I got this coin from a friend of mine. Can someone identify this coin? I mean, it's origin or whether it is legit or not. Can someone please confirm that this coin is still in circulation or that it was actually manufactured? Here's a pic.

    Welcome to CT.
It's a proof US Silver Eagle. One troy ounce of pure silver.

Is it pure? I mean, is it legit?

I can't really tell from your photos, but it's most likely legit.

Is the edge lettered or reeded?

Thanks for the correction. I also think the same because has lost about 1mm of polish and I can see a brownish like substance (maybe Bronze).

    Don't see the brown...

The American Silver Eagle coin is a "slug" issued by the US mint in several versions, each containing one troy ounce of silver. Weigh yours and see if it is close to 31.1 g and if it is, it's authentic

Thanks. I'll sure take it's weight. But clear something for me. Will any shopkeeper take this coin?

Very interesting question. Since it is marked as "one dollar", it should be acceptable as a dollar coin. Take it to a coin shop or pawn shop and you will get much more, close to the melt value of $16 or so.

Thanks. It means I can't spend it. Right?

Some shopkeepers question the "gold dollars" and 2-dollar bills.

It has a face value of $1. It's silver content is worth $16.65. You don't want to use it as spending cash.
