I would like to know what my fellow collectors think about the Statehood Quarters released to date. I think it would be interesting to see if we get a consensus on the most attractive, and the least attractive. Here's my opinion. Rhode Island is my favorite. New Hampshire currently ranks at the bottom of the list. What do you think?
Statehood Quarters Well my favorite is Florida My least favorite is Hellen Keller I think the statehood quarters are well overstated. Too many people believe that they are going to be worth a bunch when the set is complete. Companies are selling these set on a subcription program for anywhere from $2.50 to $5.00 per coin. This just may cause a backlash on the hobby when all is said and done. catman
Well I still think that the Florida quarter should show a "partying" college student losing his cookies on the beach next to an overweight active adult in a string bikini. As for my favorite quarter I would have to ignore my New York roots and my Florida home and go for the minuteman Massachusetts' coin for political, historical and artisitic reasons. I love the statehood program and collect circulated coins with my six year old but I can not see the value of my collection ever going over 25 cents a coin but the time with my son is priceless. As for my least favorite coin, I would have to go back and look for there is a few disappoints for me.
I'm with tanner on this one...TX is my favorite also. I just like the simplicity of the design. My least favorite is the WI quarter. That is where I'm originally from and I think it looks terrible! There is so much beauty and history there but they chose a cartoon cow and a wheel of cheese?!? Pardon the pun...but how cheesy!
Ditto. Yeah, I'm being a homer, but you got to admit, the Charter Oak is cool. Among the classic commem half dollars, the 1935 Connecticut half is a popular favorite as well. Worst Design: Ohio. They copy NC, and John Glenn looks like a plastic Army man. You would think out of 20 million residents, one of their artists could come up with a better design.
I like them all and agree they will never appreciate in value but, that is not why I collect coins. Texas & Maine are my favorites for their simplicity in the designs are a true reflections of these states. My least favorite is Tennessee. I really think TN has so much more to offer than Nashville music. Davy Crockett, the Smoky Mountians or just for giggles they may have had room for Dolly Parton & Dollywood. I am a country music lover from NY and think the good folks from TN should have put more thought in their selection. BTY I find the Maine coin to be elusive in our pocket change here in NY .
Well, in the beginning, the whole program was about statehood so I (we) were looking for history from way back when. After the 99 issues things kind of went array and everything except the kitchen has shown up. My favorite is Massachusettes---The Minute Man with his rifle, ready to defend the state with his life. Nothing say's more about our beginning. I have actually heard that there were those poor misguided folks up there who ACTUALLY wanted the rifle removed? What was he going to carry then? A rubber band pistol? Like it or not muzzleloaders, rifles and revelovers played an important role in the developement of this country. Our ancestors could not have survived without them so a big cheer for the Mass. Statehood Quarter for keeping the real "truth" on the obverse of their quarter. My next pick would be Kansas as the buffalo also played many parts through our early history and they WERE NOT DEMOCRATS, WIGS, REPUBLICANS or INDEPENDENTS! THANKS to the folks in KANSAS for keeping something REAL on their quarter.
My favorites so far are Vermont and Mississippi. My least favorite is New Hampshire, followed closely by Michigan. (Just the state outline? Give me a break!) I'm not too crazy about my own home state of Indiana's quarter either. Rachel
Crystalk64: The same people that complain about the Minuteman holding a rifle are the same people that are "monday-morning-quarterbacking" about how to fight the war against terror. We are fortunate that the same winers that hate seeing the Minuteman with rifles were not around at Valley Forge, the first days of D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and countless battles afterward.
Ed, it would have been nice if all those whiners had been in those battles....they would have either been shot or convinced.
I'm with Ed, the tree is simple yet beautiful. My other favorite is the Mississippi with the Magnolias.
