Looks more like a burn mark when someone turned off their cigarette when the Cent was laying in an ashtray :yack:

It doesn't look like PVC damage, and after 45 years in circulation, there is no telling what caused that discoloration.

If you're saving one of every date and mintmark, it's a keeper until you find a nicer one (Which shouldn't be too long if you're a roll hunter). If you have some interest in coins, I highly recommend buying A Guidebook of United States COins (Redbook). It's filled with all kinds of info about US COins, inc mintages, brief grading descriptions, compositions, and historical info. I wouldn't rely on the absolute values in the pricing sections, but you can get a good idea if the coin you have is a better date, or common. As you continue with hobby, it will be the best $10-$12 you'll ever spend.
