I will give a short talk to the Bellaire (Texas) Coin Club on Monday, 4/16/18 at 6PM. The talk will be about: Roman Money from before founding in 753 BC to the 3rd Punic War. If anyone is in the area and has nothing better to do, please stop by the Bellaire Library. A couple of pics about the topic - Some cast pieces - Scales were used by the Romans. I assume they were used to weigh soldier pay at Veii before Rome first struck coins. The first pic shows a Roman butcher shop with a steelyard scale. The second photo is about a week's pay, 21 asses, 21 Roman pounds, 15 US pounds.
Only 1800 miles away, I might have time if I drive really fast after I pick my kids up from school! Looks like the makings of an awesome presentation!
You know I love that stuff Gene! Good luck. I am on the opposite side of the country from you, but I do enjoy your posts. Good luck with the presentation! RR Aes Grave AE Quadrans Dog 3 pellets Six spoked wheel 59.8g Craw 26-6a Th-Vecchi 34
What a great collect @rrdenarius wish I could hear you speak on the subject. The transition from proto-currency to coinage is a fascinating subject. I hope it goes well.
