I have a box of pennies that I will go through today or tomorrow. I am new to coin roll hunting but want to make it a hobby. Other than wheat pennies what should I look for?

There would be too long a list and everybody would have differing opinions. A copy of the Red Book would help you plus visit and study a couple/several online sites to get a better idea of what's out there. www.doubleddie.com and www.maddieclashes.com. There are others that others here can send you to.

Double Die I know just enough to be dangerous

If you think it looks "not normal", set it aside and do some research on the various errors and varieties and try to match it up. If you can't find what you're looking for, post pics on here with what you think you see and then they'll be lining up to let you know what they think. The thicker your skin the better.

If you want to, you can save out all pre-1982 copper cents as they are worth more than face value because of their copper composition.

Really? How much would the value be? How would you cash them in?
I heard it's not worth the effort.

Currently, I think 2 cents each. If you have $5 in face value, it would have a melt value of around $10 currently.

I would like to point out, it’s illegal to melt them. If you can find someone willing to buy them then go for it otherwise it’s not worth it imho.
