Roman Money from before founding in 753 BC to the 3rd Punic War

    I will give a short talk to the Bellaire (Texas) Coin Club on Monday, 4/16/18 at 6PM. The talk will be about: Roman Money from before founding in 753 BC to the 3rd Punic War. If anyone is in the area and has nothing better to do, please stop by the Bellaire Library.

    Scales were used by the Romans. I assume they were used to weigh soldier pay at Veii before Rome first struck coins. The first pic shows a Roman butcher shop with a steelyard scale. The second photo is about a week's pay, 21 asses, 21 Roman pounds, 15 US pounds.

    What a great collect @rrdenarius wish I could hear you speak on the subject. The transition from proto-currency to coinage is a fascinating subject. I hope it goes well.
