? 1967 P quarter with older date clearly struck into obverse. help really needed on this one.

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Hi! I'm the car guy!, Apr 11, 2018.

  1. Got this in change, in bad shape but i noticed the double date right away when i looked at it. seems like an older quarter was restruck in 67. I think I'm seeing 1959, but oddly it's not a full silver edge, I'm seeing the normal clad from a 67 quarter. the other date is raised on the coin, not a stamp, and if you notice Washington's head is doubled and the doubled image is in line with the (59?) date. the reverse is showing this as well..need some opinions on this, never seen one like it before. THANK YOU!!

    Jmo.. it is a stain of some sort that looks 59... it is a 1967 clad..

  4. i thought so too, or some kind of transfer. when i looked atathe other date though, it is actually raised up and shows a depth. the 4th pic shows it best i guess.

    @Hi! I'm the car guy!
    I bet your 1967 Quarter is a Clad and not silver. If it were restruck onto a 1957 Quarter then it would be on a Silver Planchet...
    Think about it o_O

    1964 was the last year for the Silver Quarters!
