Hi everyone. I just got caught up with everyone else, and I now have the power to post pics!!! (Uh-Oh, look out!) I found this Jefferson a while back in my collection (read that accumulation or hoard, whichever you prefer). Best I can tell it's WRPM#1. Anybody want to back me up? [/IMG]
I can not give you confimation on the Wexler (WRPM) die number however I can confirm that your coin is RPM-1, S/S North (CONECA Listing). It appears that your coin is an earlier die state however it is circulated which will detract from its value. Nice RPM!
Thanks jtwax, The RPM Book by Wexler & Miller (1983) is the only reference I have. 1954-S WRPM#1 shows a cross reference as CONE E-03. I'm kinda new to this whole variety attribution thing, but wasn't CONE half of what CONECA is now? Does the CONE E-03 cross reference number coincide with with the CONECA RPM #1 listing? I know it is only worth what someone is will ing to pay, and it is hard to determine a value without seeing the entire coin, but what would you guesstimate the value in Fine condition? I found it in circulation, so I am never going to lose on it!!
To be honest the Old RPM book from the 80's is pretty outdated. CONE was a orginazation and so was NECA, together they joined to become CONECA. Wexler went his seperate way and started to do his own listings, Wiles went his seperate way and started the CONECA listings. So, you have two totally different attribution files. To be correct in your attributions you should stick to one or the other (CONECA or WEXLER). CONE references are outdated as well as the Old RPM book. None have accurate cross-references so I can not accurately tell you if CONE-3 was CONECA's RPM-1 but most likely it was. Like I said, use either Wexler's or CONECA's but don't try to cross-reference either because it just get's more confusing. As far as value I would say about 3 bucks. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info, it really helps alot. As for which reference to choose, I think that I will go with CONECA. (Seing as how I just mailed off my new membership application today!). I checked out the CONECA site as well as the Variety Nickel site. Loved them both!!!!!
