Bud said that having 10K of Mint state gold coins would be a reason to have a body guard and a guard dog and he is a good guard dog and he has gun and will travel. Just give him a call.
If, I where that lucky.... I would do like Eliasburg/ have a bank vault built into mansion. Plus have a good alarm system, guns, and a bunch of Rotties patrolling estate. The Rotties make poor guard dogs, they are really big cuddle dogs. But stupid Hollywood movies make them out as "Teufelhunde" = "Devil Dogs"
That is OK, I have three dogs ((Loki)Boxer/ (Logan)Shi Tzu/ and my favorite Thor the Rottweiler As a puppy....
off topic but.... If you DID hoard 200 cats... “A group of cats is referred to as a clowder or a glaring...” The more ya know...
Thanks for posting your mowers/ cats..... I will take my lawnmowers in, to have them tuned up/ so they will be ready for action in May. Still have snow, no "global warming" here. Its snowing right now Ten years ago, on the 15th of March it was 28 cel. ! I ended up taking my shirt off, first day on the job, was tanned by April Fool's Day!!!!! Climate is so changeable....
It is from being told not to speak while the adults are speaking and he is only 8 years old so he remains the young one in the group, just a social problem.
I agree. There are far more coins out there that I would like to own but could never own simply because I really do not have the money. So sometimes when I am outbid there is a sense of frustration coupled with a sense of relief that I did not get the coin. On more than one occasion my failure to win one coin meant I had the money to buy a coin which was much much better. My attitude is really simple: Bid what you think the coin is worth if you get it cool if not...... Really I do not know what is worse being the under bidder or your bid which you thought would take the coin is not even in the top 10.
I've also been clio'ed a few times (in CNG as well as in Nomos/Obolos auctions). This is the frustrating part of the hobby for normal people : there will always be a 'Clio' with deeper pockets. Coins collecting for obvious reasons attract wealthy people...
I 'clio'd' someone today in the CNG auction (I hope it wasn't one of you). Do I feel bad? No. I bid the highest amount I was willing to pay as late as possible. This method has rarely let me down.
that's how ya do it...but i hate when i do it and still get beat (sometimes we're Clio'd....sometimes we're Clio..)
This seems to happen mostly with CNG events/ esp. Triton Auctions. Before CNG appeared on coin scene it was NFA. Both have/had really exceptional coins, in high grades, displayed in gorgeous auction catalogues, also most important, unequalled grading standards. Both the consignee and the auction house reap in top prices, profit. Somtimes you have to check out all the lesser auction sites, some like Solidus, Savoca have high grading standards, at times really great coins. I picked up a mint state AV Kolchis Stater circa 200 BC for 900 euros, a lesser grade ex. in Larry Adams (CNG Triton XIX) sold for 5K.
I figured out who Clio is: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...per-Bowl-loss-reveals-hes-coin-collector.html
Clio'd!!!! Have some mercy on us poor collectors... ITALY, Southern Italy. Uncertain. Circa 11th century. Æ Follis (22.5mm, 2.33 g, 6h). Imitating a Constantinople mint Class B anonymous follis, struck circa 1028-1034. Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator / + IS SS/ [Ь]AS ILЄ/ ЬASILЄ in three lines divided by cross [set upon three steps] and with pellet at end of bars. Cf. SB 1823 (for protoype); Travaini, Monetazione, pp. 14-16: Sambon 280 (Puglia or Calabria). VF, earthen green patina. Rare and interesting.
I must confess to pulling a Clio and dropping a large bid on a coin in the CNG auction with 6 seconds left. While I felt bad for a minute, knowing I now own a possibly unique denier of Richard I made the guilt quickly disappear.
