So I really don't collect paper money but my wife and I have always kept any $2 bills we've come across. She was a bank teller for a couple of years so we've accumulated about $50 or $60 worth. I really don't even know what we have or what to look for. Paper money is something I've never really looked into. I did some searching here on the forum but had trouble because you can't search $2, it's too short. In any case, does anyone have a resource that might help me. Just sort of what to look for to see if I have anything over face value.
Federal Reserve $2 notes...1976 or newer are pretty common and not worth much over face unless the condition is very high end. What I would do is go through the notes and look for any star notes (look for a green star at the end of the serial number instead of a letter). Star notes are more desirable. You can look here and see if any of the notes are from lower printing runs as well. http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/
If you know what Red Seal two are save them. They are United States Notes from 1928 to 1963 small size. Also short run Star notes from the Federal reserve type.
I've collected new bundles from the Credit Union. Sometime in the future my kids are going to open my SDB and wonder what they are even though they're in a stash with new bundles of other denominations.
They are not worth anything, they're $2 Dollar bills. Worth at least 2 dollars. and some "wows" from people that have never seen them before. Just don't use them in Walmart.
The self serve checkout at Wal Mart probably takes them. Just don't deal with people and life is good. Let's see some photos but most or all of them are going to be face value.
Why not? I recall stories about employees of a Mickey D's in Maryland and one in Texas who thought the $2 notes were counterfeit, and when those customers were arrested by police, they ended up settling out of court for a very sweet sum. What makes you think that the employees at WalMart are any smarter? Chris
Why? The cops were just as dumb as the Mickey D's employees. Otherwise, they would not have arrested the customer. Chris
I don't intend on getting rid of any of them, at least not anytime soon. Ya I figure they're mostly if not all only worth face, but I've never looked into it before so I got curious. I might go up to my lock box and pull them out.
Ok I went up and got them, couldn't just sit here and think about it. Nothing older than 76 though, no star notes either. There's a handful of A's from 1976 which look to be the 3rd lowest amount printed, but nothing to special. Still, you don't see these much anymore and that's why we started keeping them in the first place.
If the 76's are SUPER CRISP, they could have a little value over face. Check for fancy serial numbers.
I wouldn’t go that far. I’ve just heard the McDonald’s story a ton of times and it seems like it’s a little different each time. Like this time apparently there was a settlement. I hadn’t heard that before. It just doesn’t seem real to me. I could be wrong though.
