1982 Bronze Nickel?

    Hi,just new here I'm from Scotland ,have been collecting for about 3 months now.mostly USA coins I have a 1982 D Jeffy nickel that looks to be totally bronze.Just not sure if this is an error coin or not .can anyone shed some light on this coin for me please. Thanks . David c

    Nickels in 1982, as every other year except for War Nickels (1942-45), are made of Nickel. It is probably just environmental damage.

    Nickels are 75% copper and 25% nickel.
    If it has a bronze color it is most likely environmental damage. ( It could have been in the ground, and it rusted/ or toned a bit.)
    Ideally, it could be an improperly annealed planchet which would have value.
    Would need a photo, but the odds are, it's just worth 5 cents.

    Ok thanks,I think it's got value cause it's a clean coin and the edge of the coin looks copper-bonze there is tone as well.will

    Welcome to the site!!

    Its just toned that color, if you look on the rims and the obverse and reverse you can see the silver color coming through.

    There are Nickels that are struck on Cent Planchets. But they would be smaller in size and thinner.
