I think it's just a trick of the lighting Chris. Look where it starts at the rim. Nice spike. Look over at cuds on coins and see if you can match it up.
I don't need Cuds on Coins to tell me the difference between raised and recessed. It looks like a lamination break to me. It's just another "Crappy Zincoln"! Chris
Thank you Chris, after reading your post, I took a better look at the long crack and you're right... it appears what I assumed was a long crack between the die chips on Lincoln's head, is indeed an lamination peel error. The raised areas are from the rim to the first die chip. I also believe the break continues after the second die chip but not long. There is a raised area from the rim to the first die chip though... I guess when I first looked at it, I "saw" just a long break. My apologizes to you and everyone else...
@dollar there is no need to apologize. We all learn a little at a time. No one learns everything at once. Chris
Also for the OP, I'm seeing a crack with die chips, not lamination issues. While possible, lamination errors are extremely rare on zincolns. You have a zinc core with plating on top. Your second image shows the crack and chips more clearly.
Also, in the first picture there is an interior die break (IDB) above the ear. The only reason it looks recessed is the light sources appears to be from the side, casting a shadow.
