unplated zinc cent or science project?

    Found at work today, thought it was some kind of foreign coin at first. i quickly realized it was a 2015 d shield cent. looks like it is unplated, although there is a small amount of copper tint on the rims and the shield. anyone able to help me determine if this is a true error coin, and if so a possible value? weight is just under 2.5 grams. 20180408_131827.jpg 20180408_131853.jpg

    There are tints of copper plating, so science via chemistry

    so there is no way a penny could be partially plated? i read in my research that "flecks" of copper are sometimes left by post mint alterations, but the copper left on this coin (if it even is copper) doesn't look like flecks.

    Yes, but while anything is possible, they don't look like your coin.

    Old coin dip used for silver coins will plate a cent.
