We make the point all the time. We each have a choice when we find a rare coin that fits our collecting interest in less than perfect condition. You made the choice I would have made. Perhaps in the next fifty years you will have a chance to upgrade but, meanwhile, your specialty collection of Hadrian is better than it would have been had you passed it by. Congratulations. I would not have bought it because it is Hadrian and I am not a specialist in his coins. I still enjoy a number of coins that I bought years ago and have not upgraded yet. From the last millennium and not upgraded (maybe will be, maybe not): Julia Domna Sardes AE30 $34 I missed this one in 2002 and it is much better: https://www.cngcoins.com/Search.aspx?IS_ADVANCED=1&ITEM_IS_SOLD=1&ITEM_INVENTORY_NUMBER=&CONTAINER_NAME=&ITEM_LOT_NUMBER=&ITEM_DESC=Julia Domna Sardes&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_1=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_3=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_2=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_4=1&VIEW_TYPE=0 or Julia Domna Ephesis AE30 $31 Bargains? Worn coins are not not bargains to most people. Such coins belong where they will be appreciated. You, yours; I, mine.
I bought what I thought was a beat-up Vespasian... but after trying to attribute it, the legends weren't matching up. It turns out it's a Vitellius. It's ugly... but since I have no current plans to buy a nice Vitellius... it was pleasant surprise. ($17) Vitellus Obol Year 1 Alexandria Obverse Legend: Reverse: Bust of Serapis - LA April - July 69AD RPC 5376, BMCG 219, Milne 378 I looked everywhere and was only able to find a photo of one other example that someone on FORVM connected me to in RPC.

I can't make heads or tails out of the reverse inscription on the OP. Can anyone explain what it refers to?
