Looks like a WR to me. Value? Not a clue - can't really make out the condition by the photo, or through the 2x2.
Hmm I am no expert on these by any means, but it kinda looks like it could be. Anyway we can get a clearer shot of the date/rim area?
Still looks like a wide rim to me. Nice find! As for value, well I'm simply the wrong guy to give you that info. You could look on eBay sold listing for uncertified 1979 Wide Rim SBAs. As @Beefer518 has said. The value will depend on condition (grade) of your coin. There are people who can help you with this, but they will need CLEAR photos of both sides. This means you will need to take it out of the 2x2.
Why would you not use the Red Book as a price reference, and what would you use that could be so much more accurate for a ball park figure?
In my experience the Redbook prices are usually inflated. It is generally better to use actual auction sold prices. Heritage Auction, eBay, etc etc..
Redbook is compiled once a year. Numismatics are a living, breathing commodity, and values change daily. Like MontCollector said, ebay sold, Heritage archive, Great Collections, even Numismedia.
Here's a good guide - https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...lete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684
According to that Ebay page link you just sent me to the Red Book price figure for MS63 of $38.00 is a pretty accurate scale of the price!
Like they say hard to tell you would need to take it out of flip and get better pics but I am going with an average of around 10 bucks.
Four MS63's sold. Highest price was $35, with 3 of the 4 <$30 https://www.ebay.com/sch/Susan-B-Anthony-1979-81-99/11982/i.html?_from=R40&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rmvSB=true&_nkw=1979 wide rim&_dcat=11982&Grade=MS%2063&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684
Maybe in this instance it is. I didn't check. The Red Book pricing has to be determined well in advance of printing and by the time it hits the market, it's old data. Some prices are more stable, so in some cases, it would be close to market pricing. In this hobby, pricing can fluctuate. That's why it's better to use auction archives to determine real-time prices.
Redbook is generally what you would expect to pay retail. Best up to date pricing is the greysheet. That's what most dealers use to buy.
Yes they are wide rim. According to NGC price guide, MS60-67 range from $11.50-$3,750. Auction sales are probably best for a price on a given day.
Get a copy of Numismatic News, and then take about 40% off of listed retail price, that will give you a ball park value. Or get or see a copy of the"Gray Sheet". But, the main key is grade of the coin. And last it what someone is willing to pay for it.
