1916 Ddo?

    My father found this coin in the 1960s when he was in high school. I dont know if this is a DDO or what..only coin that looks heavily died in my collection. I used a flash because its night and I couldnt get a good photo.. its deep brown in color.

    Hmm, it's hard to really tell by the pics, would you be able to possibly get a close up of the date man? Best of luck, and I'll hope for the best for you. :thumb:

    I thought a double die was died twice.. I didnt see that its actually 16 is doubled.. lol my bad..mine isnt doubled

    I presume that your second posting was for questioning?
    A doubled die is one where the die (that will eventually strike a coin) is improperly prepared.

    The die is 'struck' (just trying to keep this under 10,000 words) twice to prepare the die for use.
    During these two times there is a slight shift in the master die, and it will cause a double impression in the die, or a shift in the impression.
    Thereby causing a doubling effect on all coins that are strucdk with that die.
    What you mentioned "I thought a double die was died twice" I presume that you meant that the coin was struck twice, a totally different matter.
    And: short answer to the original question, not a double die.
