New Wounded Eagle Type?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Jesse Gillispie, Apr 6, 2018.

  1. Hi Everyone, I was wondering if this was a strike through and if it is would or could it be considered a new Wounded eagle type? I have 13 regular MS wounded eagles you can see in the Coin Roll Hunting Threads but just curious on this and what the professionals think about it? Just a heads up its on the lower left wing and im going to compare it to the coin overlay for strike through's as well

  3. Ok so its not a strike through judging from the overlay??? Does that mean this is a Cud like the original wounded eagle? Has anyone ever seen one like this? Thank for the help in advance.

This is not a cud. A cud is a break on the rim that extends into the field.

I can't tell if this anomaly is raised or recessed. I'd need a better close-up to tell if it is a die gouge or not.

Can't it be a die crack?

Edit: doesn't it pretty much *have* to be a die crack?

  9. Heres possibly a better pic with more light I have to use my camera through a loupe. It actually is in between the feathers so I dont believe it to be a die crack, but Im not an expert. Well I dont know if its better lighting but im trying lol

  10. You might be right but it would be the first crack that ever went behind and in between the devices of the wing. I wish you all could look at it like I can see it. It goes in between the feathers at the far most left of the spears or whatever you want to call it lol i have no clue really......

IMO. they were produce with a die that was scratched.
One of the scratches was deeper than the other.

  14. Thank you Ill look into it. I appreciate it. For the mean time i think ill keep this one next to my real wounded eagles!

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Due to the depth (getting onto the feathers, but not the highest part), it could be called die scratches or even die gouges.

Is one of them continued on the bird's body near the feet? Or is that part a coin scratch?

The die gouges can be found in quite a few different spots in the eagle details. What year is the Sacagawea?

  21. Thats a scratch im gonna post some more pics of the coin since I have so many nice peers interested. Sorry i was just in a rush earlier with the Family. I also took a pic of the contact mark on the eagles legs that almost matches up with the gouges but its just a contact mark unfortunately.
