I'll cheat with older world coins where you can easily get top pops because it's an excuse to post these two which I love. 1423-73 Netherlands-Gelderland Florin, only one graded at all so top at AU50 1801 Potosi mint 8R also top at AU50:
Not sure if this is what you want on top pop, most of these coins are top pop - been collecting for a while. Most of what you see is just show our group interesting coins out there- the only real top pop are the SP 66 Prototype and the FS 801 CAM which is the top of its class. There are several other top pops in this frame- Chuck
Would you care to provide any additional info on your '71S prototype IKE?? Ive never heard of such a coin. (I dont collect the series)
Last time I counted I had 28 but it's been awhile since I thought to add any to my count (IF I even have any new ones). Nor have I confirmed any of these remain in the category. Some are solo top graded, but several are those that are tied with 1 or more others. I do not include modern proof-70s in this list or there'd be more. This is the advantage (if one cares) of collecting obscure things. See if I can link my page that has them listed should anyone like to see a bunch of Albanian coins mostly: https://collectivecoin.com/Stork/XTszrWtEaATmRPuqeVw4 edited to add: OK, I know I have more than one Japanese coin that fits 'top pop'. Too lazy to fix the page though.
I started a Mexico copper collection a while back, and I love it for that reason! Being able to afford top pop coins makes me feel like a Big-Fish! But, considering the fact that 95% of the high quality coins are probably not slabbed, truth is, I'm just a small fish in a really small pond haha! I'd have to check the populations to see how many I have, these are 3 that I know off-hand:
Top of (graded) Population (Top Pop). The population is based on a specific TPG census (i.e. NGC only, PCGS only, etc...) for the series, date, mint mark, and attribute. Top Pop is the highest graded (may be assigned to multiple specimens) in the TPG census for the series, date, mint mark, and attribute. Top Pop so called dollar HK-536 in my collection. Mintage 11. Only one graded by NGC. (image below) Top Pop so called dollar HK-537 in my collection. Mintage 11. Only one graded by NGC. (image below) One can see that HK-536 and HK-537 sits all by themselves in the NGC census in the links below. https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explor...ak-hk-536-alaska-uniface-sc1-ms-coinid-850873 https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explor...ak-hk-537-hawaii-uniface-sc1-ms-coinid-850874 These two specimens are from Hibler (co-author of the book So-called Dollars: An Illustrated Standard Catalog with Valuations by Harold E. Hibler and Charles V. Kappen). Both are pedigreed to the Ostheimer collection. The HK-536 is the "plate medal" in the second edition of So-called Dollars: An Illustrated Standard Catalog with Valuations.
I still thing that kennedy you have really floats my boat. Bet that would be hard to part with. Dont be a knucklehead
Wow. What are you getting at. I'm think its a coin graded at it's higest level so far. None graded above said grading in hand or known so far. Not a dryer coin. Hope this helps
Now thats my idea of a top pop. Preety coin. I could care less what others think. Cuz that coin has that pazzzes
From the PCGS website - Top-Pop This term means the same as "Pop-top." It refers to a coin that is at the TOP of the POPulation Report (in other words, the finest graded). Pop Top A coin that is on top of the Population Report and scores the maximum number of points on the PCGS Set Registry.
