Pics came out pretty nice on this one. Opinions on grade? http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0041.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0042.jpg Thanks, clembo
It looks to be worn and a beautiful AU-58, but I suspect the coin is lightly struck and therefore a MS-63. Take Care Ben
Man, very nice coin clembo. :thumb: I am not really that well at determining weak strikes from wear, but if it is wear then AU-58, if not, MS-64 is my opinion. Either way nice coin man. :thumb: Phoenix
Yes these are known for being lightly struck. But there is an apparent lack of luster on the high points which would make me say AU.
So here's the real scoop on this coin. Actually it is pretty nice but probably AU with nice surfaces. It's "slabbed" by PCS=Preferred Customer Service. Just look at these pics if you please. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0001-3.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0002-2.jpg Decent looking coin and I bought it cheap as it just "walked into" my dealers store. Wonder what the original buyer paid for an Authentic Morgan Dollar though.
I don't even consider it a slab. It's in a "fold out" holder I consider it a "fly by night" company that "certified" this coin to be an ACTUAL Morgan Dollar. You might also notice that the address is a suite. That always boosts my confidence. LOL Decent coin and it was cheap.
The New Orleans coins were definitely known for light strikes, which yours has. There is a big hit on the reverse. I would guess MS62 - 63. Nice coin!
64 if the luster is all there, and I suspect the photo is in fact a scan and the luster is much better.
