Ok, I've had his one for a while. It was slabbed by a Canadian firm and I ALWAYS forget the name and the coin is buried back in the safe. Scarce coin - 1875 Twenty Cent piece with a mintage of about 39,000. Care to venture a grade? Here's a few pics. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0017.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0018.jpg
I agree..I was going to sat XF-45.. I once had a 1875-S with a nice blue green toning on both obverse and reverse. It was graded PCGS MS-63...paid $190.00(raw) and sold it for $1600.00 (graded) Nice coins!! RickieB
Nearly AU obv. XF-45 rev. Decent clasp and do I see a smidge of luster trying to peek through ? Nice coin ! I have to get a few more of these.
if it was graded by CCCS, Canadian Coin Certification Service there would be a nice premium added if it were still in flip and staple. very nice double dime
Well, I just dug it out and it's ICCS. International Coin Certification Service. Very conservatively graded actually and my scans don't do it justice. Know anything about ICCS? I'd appreciate any advice as I have considered breaking this one out for slabbing by PCGS.
ICCS is VERY well respected in the Canadian market. If they graded it, then PCGS would too. It sure looks every bit of AU to me, very nice
I appreciate knowing that. As it turns out this coin is graded as XF40 but it really is much nicer in hand. My local dealer (who loves 20 Cent Pieces) said he thinks it would go AU50-53. That's why I'm considering sending it to PCGS. WOuld be a hell of a jump and I think it merits the grade. clembo
I'd definatly send it out, Clem. The only thing that would hold it back would be the wear on the right leg and neck of the eagle. I think you could swing AU.
Thanks Roto, Wish you could see it in person. Strong strikes on both sides are hard to find another of my dealer tells me. That's why he liked my 1876 even better. Good strikes and better detail than this one actually.
