I haven't seen a thread on this subject, unless it eluded me. Are back issues of "Coin Prices" magazine collectible at all? I have been doing some early spring cleaning, and found a small stack of them in a box, mostly from the 80's, but I have 2 older issues from May and July 1971, which were both labeled number 18, so I assume this magazine started out in the late 60's.

It would be fun to compare the prices to today's guides. I bet there is a year or two in the 80's where the prices are similar or higher than today's.
A thorough comparison may offer insight into what is a good buy right now.

Are prices unusually or historically high today?

Well, you might laugh when you hear that one of my 1971 issues touts the 1913 Liberty Nickel at a price of $46,000.

Well kind of. The highest coin prices in general ever were was in 1989 - and recent months are the highest they have been since then. I am not speaking about any particular coin - just coins in general.

But if you were to compare the CU 3000 Index from 1989 to today - today it is still about 70% lower.
