Over the years I've learned that people on Cointalk are very judgmental, like most forums. However, I have also learned that we are fairly accurate in our assessments of new members. Most new members who post threads like this are unwilling to accept what those with more experience tell them, because it causes them to lose hope, which was created by youtube and other sources. For new collectors, it is not useful to be combative or angry, but they become this way because of hope.

For members who choose to pity the ignorant, it is not helpful, as it only makes them feel more justified in their combativeness.

Carrie, get all of the free help you can, because if it seems to be the one special, no serious buyer would make an offer until it has been examined by experts in person and a positive verdict issued, about $100 for the task. If you ran a shop and someone brought in a "signed" Mona Lisa, wouldn't you be very critical also. This coin type has shown up 100 times or so on the forum, and none have shown up later as verified by the major grading services from them. It is a very long shot. The reverse of the coin should be shown also. Also each coin should be shown on the scale separately to help. we try not to give false hope as that can cost dearly. Please take any advice as just that, free advice. The coin is what it is...it won't change identity over time, so seek all of the advice and knowledge you can find on it before deciding what to do.

You can see at least 3 areas where the copper plating is missing and the zinc shows through underneath.

I think you and some others are the ones that keeps missing the point with the 1982 posts.

So... I'm guessing you're one of the super special individuals who magically knew it all and without receiving the slightest help or kindness?

If so concerned about combativeness, perhaps the smart thing to do would be to wait for others to become unreasonably combative before we become combative and start belittling or attacking them? Crazy talk, I know.

Still, you can spin as you want, this has nothing to do with pitying the ignorant but is about simple respect, not only for others but for ourselves

I never said I knew everything. I didn't imply anything of the sort in what I said. When I am told that I am wrong, I accept the feedback, and use this to gain knowledge for future situations. If new members were to use this philosophy to learn, rather than becoming combative, I am sure that we would have a lot more of them stay. Personally, I am not going to pity a new member that is whining over antagonization that did not occur.
