First let me say that my set isn't a full typeset (I call it a sub-typeset.) The early items are out of my $ range, particularly in the grades I shoot for. That being said, I now find myself one coin away from completing my version of a typeset. Went to a show Saturday and filled two holes. Here's what I got:
I would rather have a complete type set in VG to UNC than a incomplete set with all XF to unc. A type set is something other people are interested in seeing, and to have one complete with the expensive coins being in VG condition is better. Just my feeling.
You said that you filled two holes. Does that mean you break the coins out of the holder to put in your album?
Oh wow beautiful coins. Im working on a similar typeset of all BU coins. But the next one I need is my standing liberty quarter, and who knows how long it will be before I can afford that one. It may be a hard task to do such a type set, but Im only 24 so I quess Ill have enough time to make a pretty impressive set. Anyhow, beautiful coins. I envy you.
im going to 1st finish my 7070 type set album 2nd make a type set of all ngc graded coins since they are so much nicer
The nice thing about a typeset is that collectors can set their own parameters about the extent of the set. Young collectors may have to be satisfied with a 20th century typeset until they start earning enough to move into the 19th. My criteria are XF or better and affordable. Actually that has been "stretched" three times in my case. I have three coins that are only VF, but the price was the big factor in each case. And it's highly unlikely that I'll ever be able to extend back to the early US coinage.
You might have to work your way up. Get an XF now and later use it and somemore $ to move up to a BU. Here's my two (Type I and Type II) from my typeset:
kanga. It's your type set make it as you like, you have very nice examples of some great coins congratulations. THE OTHER BRUCE.
