Yes. I assume the machine didn't take it for weight? It weighs 5.3g. Maybe it's a recovered dryer coin. I'll try it in the grocery acceptor tomorrow.
In general, no. It depends on how you behave, I guess -- if you shove someone out of the way while they're dumping coins in, you'll probably meet with some disapproval. Socially, I think it's pretty much the same as picking up change off the floor.
It reminds me of the feeling I had as a boy when my Granddad taught me to check the coin return on a pay phone. I was giddy every time I found a coin, usually a quarter! But at the same time, I always hoped nobody was watching me, lol!
\ This reminds me of when I was a kid we would go to the Atlanta airport to pick up my grandmother. I would run around to the pay phones and check the coin returns. I used to come home with a few dollars which to me at that age was a fortune!!
A few years ago, I was putting nickels in the vending machine and ejecting then to get different coins at the Atlanta airport. Then i put in dollar coins and every time I put one in, 5 more dollars would fall out and some would end up under the machine. I made fifty dollars before my little brother almost ripped my arm off and told on the airport. I a jar with all those coins. Ended up with a 2006 nifc dollar coin and a few pre-60 nickels.
From my bank's coin machine yesterday... England 1999 1 Penny Germany 1950 10 Pfenning Plastic Lincoln Memorial Cent. Undated. In place of "In God We Trust", it has "SCHOOL MONEY". All other mottos are complete with the addition of stars on either side of "ONE CENT". Obviously from a plastic coin set to teach kids how to count money. I remember them from the 70's. This one seems to be from a more modern variety available today.
Looks like I've found the best couple of finds then lately! On Saturday I found 1 silver dime, but yesterday... Not too shabby. Best silver quarter spill yet in a coinstar!
I just wanted to let everyone know i am still checking the Coinstar machines, however i haven't been having the best of luck. Some foreign, some modern, no silver. Nothing really worth remembering. Good luck to all!
I mean, I look almost daily for coins, since there is a Coinstar both on my way to and from school, which is why I find so much.
