. The wrapper machine damaged coin on the end of an OMR 1981 Lincoln. Other planchets in the roll have similar planchets, scattered patterns and hues consistent with an incomplete alloy mix of copper and zinc. I have more pics to share, but want to let the new post jumpers with quick assessment to know, save any " it's a stain, circulation skuz, wrapper reaction, poor storage", type comments. Those circumstances have been ruled out. A few have been cleaned (no need for a don't clean a coin lecture here, keeping all uncirculated 1981s was never a consideration). It's an improper alloy mix circumstance, no acids, no tainting, no scientific high school experiment, etc.. I qualify my comments, with all due respect. I mean, I see that a new member, with a nickle issue, already gave up due to too much sarcasm quick draw opinions, and naysayers. I'd concede, some posters may be, well, phony or disingenous. Some are green, not to mention poor photography, hey, who routinely takes pics of coins? An absolute assessment can only be made physically, say, by the likes of Mike Diamond and colleagues. I would make some of these planchets available to known pros.. it's not about money or value. It's about, hopefully, adding to the error type collectors, who, thankfully, have added interest to Lincoln cent collecting far beyond the 43 copper and 55 dd I grew up with. I'm a Vietnam era vet, a teen when the wheat went memorial, and a young man when the 60 lg/sm date finally, fired up pennie collecting a little! Again, with respectful intention, a post of interest, might have a plancet issue here, more pics to follow
I know when Zincolns started, it's just a tongue in cheek nickname due to, ironically, the last full year of the "copper" leeching zinc...geeeeze.! Yes, I know, they started mid 82....aaaaaargh, these post jumping quick " gottcha" comebacks, I can only smile, Silly... That's why I put "Zincoln" in quotes, just the irony...No prob, bro, It's all good..Actually, I don't collect Zincolns, I'm a copper purist, zincies are poor quality cheepies...
Duh, paddyman, no kiddin! See my reply to Sully...Friendly like dude here..It's all good... I agree with your motto, it would be an error not to collect an error. Thing is, with the change pending in mid 82, it wasn't business as usual in 81, who knows, maybe a bad alloy sheet roll (13" x 1500') using up the stock on hand, got loaded up, missed inspection, whatever... My coins are the pre 82 composition, copper with 5% zinc, but the metals are not fully mixed....it happens...An "error" kind of guy would less dismissive, if my avatar loaded, take a look after rereading my original post...Unc., not stains, etc.....
If I understand your Post #7 correctly, you're saying your avatar shows the alloy issues, correct? Unfortunately, your avatar only shows a coin with environmental damage (stained spots), and not an improperly mixed alloy.
Not really what I was going for. Title doesn’t make a ton of sense and it seems you’re the only one who gets it.
