just picked this guy up, was hoping for opinions. I’m not sure if the rim ding would stop it from grading.

    I’m thinking at least XF.

Any opinions would be appreciated 5577CF8B-4E7A-4641-90D5-537794160FAC.jpeg 0A84853A-0694-4BB8-9B22-086568438E66.jpeg

It might be bad enough to end up net grading.

Yeah I like to say no ....but thay sort of hit isn't good. I just got a shield nickel same issue nice coin rim ding.

The ding looks deep enough to keep from getting a straight grade. Nice looking otherwise.

I have a coin with a worse ding that got graded.

If you plan to sell it, the coin is valuable enough that you will probably get your money back by slabbing it (not to mention the slab may hide the ding). If you're just keeping it, I'm not sure I see the value in slabbing.

I agree with the others about the rim ding. IMO, it's more than just a ding. More of a small gouge. The metal moved.

I'm thinking VF30 on the grade.

Is this a case where "rare date privilege" might get it a clean net grade?

If it were mine I'd give it a shot. It should make XF40 without a problem if they forgive the rims.

Buffalo nickels are known for lamination issues however if it was there be a bigger area effected not just a small spot on the rim IMHO. To my eye it is a rim ding .

you think it's the repunch mint mark? I can't find a picture of one anywhere, but I see one is possible.

If you look at the reverse there's more than just that one spot... it blends in... just have to look
