Going through some old loose pennies I found this unfortunate 1987 Lincoln cent. I can't figure what happened to this thing. Ideas?

Squeeze job. Your coin was smashed with another one. Damage. Not an error.

You can tell by the fact that all the letters/date are reversed and incuse.

PMD........You can see "1982" imprinted backwards from another Lincoln cent.

Agreed. I just can't wrap my mind how a 1987 coin got smashed with a 1982 coin.

Seriously, I didn't do it if that's what you are insinuating. If someone else did why would they throw away? I will look online and see if there is a way to tell and destroy it if so. Thanks for the link, I had no clue people would do that.

People do things to coins all the time. People do stupid things. Period. Just spend it and move along. Perhaps we will see a new person posting your coin that they found a few months or years from now :)

    Ha! Nope. I will destroy.
That's why I jumped on here to keep from wasting money sending to get certified.
    Thanks again.

I don't think anyone was insinuating that you did it. We've seen hundreds of similar coins on these forums. They are damaged by "damaged minds" that have nothing better to do.

No one is insinuating you did this or as to your motives in general.

As for destroying it, don't bother and simply because it will make absolutely no difference in the long run. There are lots and lots of them out there and we see them posted to the forum quite often. You could consider keeping it as an educational piece.

    Welcome to the forum, Frank.

    Welcome to CT
It appears to be a vise job PMD (post mint damage) as stated. Welcome

Thanks for the definition of PMD. I had no idea what that meant. Prolly should be called a PMF. Post Mint Fraud :)
