Beautiful coin, not so ordinary. Surely Ferdinand's Habsburg jaw is not so prominent as Leopold's ( see coin nut's 1665 3 Kreuzer). In the cruel words of Simon Winder in his book 'Danubia', "the tiny Leopold's jaw" was "so distended that his mouth would fill with water if it rained".

    other French one

    France/Canada
    Sizain (or Douzain ? ) 1658

This is a mysterious coin with a weight of 1.59 g (versus the standard weight of a sizain of 0.925 g )which was probably struck in France for export to Quebec and their territories in North America. There was a severe shortage of coin in the colony and as a result French coins traded at a higher value than back in France. In Quebec it would have been valued as a douzain

Here is an interesting example of the last year of this copper type (1622-1655) from the local minting of Philipp IV (1621- 1665).
This coinage is an excellent sample of the struggle of Catalonia for its interdependency from Spain. The territory proclaimed its ruler the king of France in 1640s, that is why the coinage depicted Louis XIV of France rather than Philipp IV in those years. After the recognition by Philipp IV of the rights of Catalonia, they restored the local coinage with his portrait.

Obv.: Bust of elder Philip IV left A R
Rev.: Catalonia's coat of arms. BARCINO CIVI 1655
Medal alignment ?? ! Is this the only coin with this alignment? The majority of the Spanish coinage has coin alignment ??.

As we know, Catalonia is going through the same struggles still today, fighting for their independence from Spain.

This is close to my heart, since my place of home, the Åland Islands, went through similar struggles and was for a long time fighting for our own self government from Finland almost a hundred years ago during and after the First World War when Finland got its independence from Russia.
Finland turned 100 years 2017 and Åland will celebrate our self government in 1922.
