OK, my January submission was delivered today, and both of my February submissions for US and World are in Quality Control. I should be able to see the results online by next week!
What do they mean "Proof Details"? Is it a Proof or not? If so, what grade of "details" does it have? Inquiring minds what to know.
Proof details. This is another assumption, and both of which I have made are dangerous, it's like MS details, but it's not MS, it's Proof.
Looks like the right rims, for it, but I remember reading, I think in the Red Book, that the rims should blaze in light very brightly. In looking at the rims I also notice a slight difference in the thickness of the square part of the rim that is not uniform. But I have never heard of this being abnormal for the matte proof. Could this be due to someone grinding the rims to look square? Strong strike for sure....Is it the real McCoy? I certainly am not sure, but I'd look up all the die markers possible for the strike, possibly in an older book you could borrow from the ANA's big Library collection, or leave it up to the graders. I'll post a picture of one I thought was a matte proof, quite a few years ago but turned out not to be. Yours looks much more like a Matte Proof.
It means they can't give it a grade because it is impaired, such as a scratch, environmental damage, cleaned, etc. They have determined it is a proof.
Yeah, unfortunately NGC doesn't grade coins like ANACS does. ANACS would say something like "PR-61 DETAILS CLEANED", "PR-58 DETAILS CLEANED", or whatever the grade they think it should be.
