Still have not learned to upload pics, but getting there. Neither. Buy. 60. Yes, but will be priced out of gold products. None. Right for me. True for me. Something.

I am selling so I can buy - hopefully better coins.

As for profit, if I but at $10, sell at $15 and then buy at $20, Is that profit?

I only "work" 6-8 months out of the year.
Profit this year - in the low six figures.
    I'm buying US gold.
No complete sets. I don't deal in sets, just coins.
Yes, there is money left over for next years purchases.
Starting off the year with 3 Green Monster boxes and it's go from there.

You're into the low sixes selling coins?

    I'm in the wrong industry...

I'm afraid that is between me and the IRS.
Sorry, I don't advertise my financial details to the potential identity thieves and robbers who cruise the internet.

Personally, I find this kind of inquiry to be quite offensive!

LOL - I guess that means your not going to tell me your SSN, salary this year, bank account holdings, and address where your coins are at?

I so agree with you, when I first read this thread I wondered why anyone would give out that information is an open forum. I wouldn't tell my mom that much information - and I know, love, and trust her. Have your house broken into once and see how protective you become of your personal information.

Elaine - why would you ask that type of question? What benefit would it serve when many answers you will get are probably not true. Andrew may or may not be telling the truth. We will never know and I would rather not to be honest. I don't mean this as a criticism of you - I am just trying to understand why you would ask a question to answers you could never verify as true.

When I get asked by a company what's my annual income, I either answer the lowest amount or "wish not to disclose" if that is an option.

    Best Regards,

    Darryl

As long as one speaks in generalities ..I have no problem.

The questions that she asked are not that offensive but then again little offends me. I think you guys are overeacting just a tad ...lol. I mean most are yes or no answers.

did you make a profit or loss?...profit
are you planning to sell or buy?....buy
how many complete sets you got?....0
any money left for next year mint's products?...yes I do.

    Was that hard?

No, low six figures is my total income for the year and obviously that is intentionally vague. There are a lot of folks who make over $100,000 a year out there. My neices high school pricipal make $115,000. So, I don't think that's revealing to much information. My day job is not significant to a family oriented coin collecting site like this...let just say that I'm upper management in the adult entertainment industry.

I'm in the only industry that is 100% recession proof. No matter its a good economy or a bad one ..there is always money for entertainment.

I would guess that about $50,000 is in coins. I start off each year buying a couple Green Monster boxes. Get them graded and then go from there. If I'm blessed with a lot of 70's, I make my money back faster than with a boat load of 69's but thank goodness there are folks who think a 70 means something and the color of the label makes a big difference in price. I don't share the thought but then again I'm not silly enough to buy my own stock. If you want to pay me $100 more for an early release label ... all I have to say is ...God Bless you. The coin cost me 20 bucks.

I love to go to shops and shows and try my hand at cherry picking and try to flip for profit. My favorite series is walkers but I like SLQs as well. Every now and then, I try to make sets out of a bag or 2 of full date buffs but it's been a while. I prefer collecting back date silver eagles..mostly 1991, 1995 and 1996.

Well, the salary is no problem. I've earned $0 in salary since retiring at the end of 1995. (I don't consider those monthly pension checks to be "salary".)

Agreed, and the IRS doesn't consider them salary either.
However, sad to say, they are still taxable......
? Time to move to some tax-free country?

    Low 6 figures?

    Could they be:
    $1234.54
    Low enough?

If they're all to the right of the decimal point, they'd be really low figures!

Speaking of figures, I guess I won't ask Andrew289 for samples produced at his workplace in this forum.

In terms of the original questions, I doubt that I will ever make a material monetary profit on anything I've bought this or any year, but I've certainly gotten my money's worth and then some.

We have a complete set (by our reckoning) of Canadian Small Cents now, but that's probably out of range of your question.

Well, my salary is a whopping $35K/year plus quarterly bonuses, so I'm not exactly worried about giving out too much info, ha. If someone broke into our condo, I'd think they'd find that they would have very little to take!

Anyway, can't remember everything I bought. I may profit in the long run, but I don't want to get into any sort of Enron accounting scheme here, so let's just say I made money this year, and that my coins are simply another way of storing that money (as opposed to a CD or 401k). Planning on buying all next year, probably very little selling if any. No complete sets. Only planning on buying two mint products next year (Lincoln silver dollar and the next Presidential proof set), so I think I got enough for that. :)

I think that about covers it...

Coin-wise, I've never really kept track of whether or not I've profitted financially...it's never mattered much as I collect for the enjoyment alone. I suppose I have profitted a lot in satisfaction and educationally though.

I've also never focussed on one set, but collected what I like as I see it. I guess eventually I'll complete some of the 30 + sets I have going.

I keep my coin collecting fun and my investing seperate.

That's between me and the wife - thanks for asking.

None of your business but I'll give you this I do get paid for every hour that I work.

Depends on one's definition of a set.

Yes, if I decide to waste/risk my money on them.

I say a lot of things - when I'm done they are said.

So here we go thanks to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Some may find this as true.

" BEDEMIR: And that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped.
ARTHUR: This new learning amazes me, Sir Bedemir. Explain again how
sheeps' bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes."
