Hi, all. A new guy here. I'm really not much of a coin collector, and this discussion only touches on coin collecting. I have a non-coin related application for the slabs used by grading companies, and would like to contact the mfr. of the slabs. The new application will have a total redesign, as coins are not involved. Does anyone know whom I can contact about manufacturing the new "slabs?" Do the grading companies mfr. the slabs, or do they just buy and assemble them? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
The slabbing companies do not manufacture the plastic slabs they use. However you should be able to find a manufacturer by searching the internet for compaies that make molded plastic or custom plastic. catman
Here links to the top four graders: PCGS http://www.pcgs.com NGC http://www.ngccoin.com IGC http://www.icgcoin.com/ ANACS http://www.anacs.com/ Since they are the end customer, they would have to demand changes from their molding/plastic companies. If they drive it, all the better. If is non-coin, just maybe they will share the information with you.
You might as well just contact the injction molding companies directly since if you are modifying the slab shells in any way they would have to make up new molds anyway. if you think you have an application that can use the slabs withot modification then I would approach some of the third tier companies where more than one company uses the same shells. The major firms all use proprietory slab designs and will NOT be interested in selling you shells.
That's what I'm looking for. But there are 42.1 gazillion injection molding companies. Does anyone know who makes the slabs for the grading companies? I prefer to go direct to one of the slab mfrs., as they will have general knowledge that would be useful in designing my cases. The coin slabs will not work for my application. However, if I knew who some of the "third tier companies" were, perhaps I could obtain mfr. info. from them.
