    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

With nickels, it's either full steps or not.
    'Some steps left' is meaningless.

What @rickmp says here is clearly correct, but there's more to consider here. The nickels of 1939 come in two reverse types - the Reverse of '38, and the Reverse of '40. What you have here is the SOMEWHAT less common (for Philly) Reverse of '38.

In any case, it's in great shape for a circulated 1939 Nickel

I think the point @Nolan Workman was trying to make was that he found(?) a 1939 nickel, and it even has some steps, even after 79 years in circulation.

    But I could be wrong....

It took me a longish time to snag a 38 Reverse 1939 Philly that nice. I call it a keeper fo’ sho’. Keep checking 39 nickels. There is a very cool DDR that is quite obvious.

Just sharing the find; found the remaining detail on the monument nice also. Thanks for the looks and comments.

If this nickel is not MS it doesn't qualify even if it had the steps.

Qualify for what? I didn't know there was a competition.

Sure, everybody knows that. Thursday and Friday are time trials, and then Saturday starts eliminations. Oops, wrong sport.

[NHRA Keystone Nationals. Maple Grove. October. OOPS! September this year. Be there.]

I hated Track meets. The two mile was always the last event.

That would definitely be the LAST event for me...

I used to run it pretty fast for being barely 5' tall.

The first NHRA event I watched was 1960 "Smokers Car Club" March Meet Fomoso Dragstrip, Bakerfield, CA.

That's a pretty descent find for being as old as it is.

    A classic.

I'm leaning towards a reverse of 1940 on this one. I can see a serif on the S above the dome (pluribus) and can see a vertical line at the end of the steps on the left. Serif = reverse of 40, no serif, rounded S = reverse of 38. I agree, the reverse of 38 is a difficult coin to find in nice UNC, and even harder to find in circulation.

And I have one in PCGS MS66 FS. I didn't send it, I "picked" it at a local auction for about $8.

Qualify as full steps designation. That seemed self explanatory to me.

Cool find! I spent countless 39s before the diff. reverses were discovered.
