#1: From Coin Counting Machines to Wrappers to Bags

I love one branch of one of my local banks

I've had this "love-hate" relationship with different banks in my area. There is this one branch where the manager gives me a hard time EVERY time I walk in the door. "What are YOU doing here again?!" (She does it in fun, though, and it's okay ;-).

So after they got rid of their coin counting machines, I had to wrap coins again. What a pain. After 3 or 4 weeks of this, she tells me, "Why don't I just give you the bags and you bring the coins in that way?"

#2: Funny People Buying My Already-Searched Coins

I'm waiting in line today with a $1,000 bag of half dollars. I see Mr. Dude eyeing me up. I know exactly what's going to happen before it happens.

<Mr. Dude> (trying to act nonchalant) "Erm, uh, so those are half dollars, eh? How many?"

    <Dougmeister> "A thousand dollars."

    <Mr. Dude> (eyes glittering) "Wow!"

<Mr. Dude goes to do his bank business in a side room>

The teller taking my bag meets me near the vault. Turns out he wants to buy my bag of half dollars. Big surprise.

How many of you would tell him not to bother... that there's "no silver in them thar hills"?

I'd save him the time . . . wouldn't you appreciate it if another depositor did the same for you?

Yeah, but then again, I'd never buy a bag of half dollars from a customer ;-)

The thing about going through someone's dumps is that a searcher may have varying interests than someone else in what they like to keep. That, or the first searcher may miss something. For example, searcher #1 may not care about keeping or looking for older high-grade clads, NIFC dates (including 1987's), proofs, errors or varieties. Additionally, searcher #1 may overlook a 40% half or two (especially if they just skim the edges in a hurry looking only for silver). Heck, searcher #1 may not even realize halves minted from 1965-1970 contain silver and take them out.

Searcher #2 may have an interest in some or all of these different aspects of collecting so while one may have the right intentions, just flat out warning or telling a prospective searcher not to bother without knowing their actual or complete interests would be something of a fallacy.
