Went to a smaller (40ish tables) local coin club show yesterday in WI and walked away with a trio of new ladies:

I have no clue how to capture the amount of “mirrors” on the Trade dollar, and for the life of me, can’t figure out how it only got a 55. I’m super happy with it (and the holder is a plus)!

I paid AU 50 grey sheet bid ($330) for the Trade Dollar, below grey sheet bid $325 for the Peace, and $250 for the Morgan. I welcome thoughts about how I did value wise or if others would’ve pulled the trigger at those prices!

Thanks for divulging. If I was in the market for those coins, I wouldn't have a problem paying those prices. I'd only be looking for the trade dollar at this time though. Cool pick ups.

Very nice pick ups!! I love the T$ in that old ANA holder. From what I remember, the XA prefix was the first one used on the ANA holders, so your example is possibly one of the first 100 graded by ANACS in the slab. That is really cool!!

@Broncoholic , can you tell me where YOU see the wear on the Trade Dollar? I can't tell from the pic. Her left arm?

I truly don’t see ANY! Perhaps, SLIGHTLY, the only place I can tell that they might have seen is the wing “shoulders” of the eagle on the reverse. The closer I look at this coin, the more I think this is grossly undergraded.

Like them all. Trade especially. Been dipped once and retoning. But it looks like 58 all day

At least. Small slab ANACS is generally seen as a "tough" grading era. I sure hope so, I'm sitting on quite a few of them.

There’s high point rub and luster breaks. It’s not unc. I have one that’s flawless that I can’t get pcgs to go higher that 58 on

Not to send moderator Doug into a tizzy, but we all know that a little rub no longer precludes a grade over 60.

Agreed. But this to me is clearly au. And the secondary brown toning after a dip to me clearly feels it’s no more than 58 300605F6-5D50-4798-B82E-66C1CD51F3DE.jpeg 64A867E5-3D8D-4B50-9A5D-C2EB8F5CA0DC.jpeg If this is a 58. And granted not the best pics then the op coin is no more than 58. Field scratches are die polish lines not cleaning marks

Just one - that's all I ask. Well, actually two. I want a nice one free of chopmarks, and one with them, for my 7070 set.

I probably own close to 20. Including 73,4,5-cc in au and 74 77 80 in proof

Thank you gentlemen, for the conversation. I wish there was a way that I could capture better pictures, because I’m not sure you’re seeing everything this coin has to offer. Is it common to have mirrors on these? The toning is blue, not brown and I’m just not seeing wear or luster breaks on her. But the truth of the matter is that I’m not going to re-submit anyway... because I love these ANA holders. So the debate may continue! Lol

They can. I’ve seen a fair amount of 78-s trade dollars that were semi pl. remember this is the same San Francisco mint and time period they were cranking out the often pl and well struck 78-82-s Morgan dollars.
