This was posted in another forum. It's the first fake slab I've seen, unless I'm missing something. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3773292651
And just what other forum would that be, Dave? But seriously, this is terrible. I know that the slabs are crude. (for now, anyway), but does this mean that I will have to learn how to identify and grade coins for myself? Oh, the horror!
I got a big laugh out of it myself but it might just trick somebody getting started. I personally don't have any VD85 coins It really looks to me like a digitally "enhanced" pic. Notice the shadow on the reverse and the golden hue on the obverse bottom part of the slab. There may not even be a physical fake slab here but only a doctored image.
I'm sure the ebay watchdogs will report this one soon if they haven't already. Looks like photoshop to me. Sorry to say, but anybody who falls for this one deserves to get burned. ZERO feedback HORRIBLE grammar, PHOTOSHOP pics, CONTRADICTARY description. Who do they think they are fooling?
It gets even worse. Apparently, this seller from China has 'PCGS' slabbed 'coins', too. This one has a bid. Check the bidders name... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2198&item=3773295548&rd=1 This is almost funny, except the next time there will be fewer mistakes in the auctions. PS There doesn't seem to be any way to contact Ebay to let them know these are a) fakes being offerd as real, b) fake slabs/doctored pictures, c) copyright infringements on PCGS, NGC, and PCI
They're also selling fake PCGS slabs. And exactly what is AU75 condition? (Sorry, I read the posts after I had posted this - guess I should have read first ) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2198&item=3773295548&rd=1 And, BTW, what exactly is the grade VD85 on the NGC slab? Needless to say, I have reported this wonderful seller. If any of you also want to report this seller's auctions, please report them by clicking the link below and clicking on "Report" at then bottom of the page. You can report up to 10 auction numbers at a time. http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-coins.html
I reported their auctions as well. How crazy is this guy. After all, who would give a coin to their mother anyway???? (that was a shot at you joesmom) It was painful just trying to read their description...
*# % ^ @ # Look at where the seller is China- I have nothing against China, but I have been very leary of purchasing on line from China or even Singapore, -I lived in singapore for a short while - I have many friends there but they can counterfit better than any one. Richard
LOL...Hey now! If Joe knows what's good for him he'd BETTER give me a coin (or 2) for Mother's Day. Although preferably NOT something from this guy!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?viewItem&category=2198&item=3773295548&rd=1 Somethings even screwy with the bidder. Registered 2 years, no feedback??? Bill
Scumnuker looks for auctions like this and bids them up so people don't get suckered. It's always nice to know that Scumnuker is on patrol
oh no something needs to be done if the chinese fakers start making authentic looking slabs they could seriously cause a lot of problems in the coin buisness. they are counterfieting everything just now as it is.i even bought a twin set of 18 volt makita drills that turned out to be fakes. can ya believe that, total fakes.if they can fake power tools and very very good fakes at that then i dont see why a slabbed coin would be a problem at all.And then these with start for years changing hands in the coin market place. something has to be done about china, faking everything.clothes, coins, power tools, wwatches. they are even faking sony television sets ive been hearing to do this kinda stuff requires factories, biug factories. time the chinese government started to clamp down very hard on these people.
I agree with you Highlander. I doubt if even 10 percent of what is sold from China on eBay is genuine - and none of the coins are. I would love to see the China sellers be restricted to selling on eBay-China. However, this will never happen because so many sellers in other countries also sell on eBay-US and I'm sure that eBay would have to restrict them also. Theoretically, once you have an ID NARU'd once, you are banned from starting another one. In order to sell, you need to have a credit card on file with eBay. If they use stolen credit card information, they now have new identity information so eBay can't track it. The credit card info is checked every 30 days, so the seller has 30 days that they can sell before it comes to light that the credit card has been stolen and cancelled. Food for thought: How do you think these people are getting that information? Could it be the scam emails that we all get on a regular basis? Interesting how this is all tied together, isn't it?
Close, but no cigar Susan. I am aware of 1 seller in Shanghai (and another 1 in Singapore) whose coins are genuine. I guess that means your remark is like Ivory Soap - 99 & 44/100 percent pure.
I stand corrected. I was only going by the ones that I have looked at and I had only seen 3 that looked like they were selling genuine US coins. I feel bad for the couple that are legitimate because the connotation of selling from that area is going to be very hard for them to overcome.
I forwarded the ebay post to NGC and PCGS so they are aware of this. They, like us, have the most to lose. Did you see the fake PCGS slabs? Unbelieveable!
