I am new to the coin collecting world. It was kinda past down to me and now it has me very intrigued. I came across this 1944 d wheat penny. Where "In God We Trust" where the s is, is so close to the rim of the penny that it almost looks like an upside down 2. Would this be considered an error coin?
I agree this looks like damage that occurred after it left the mint...not an error. We call it PMD (post mint damage). It is also fairly common to have the legends be so close to the rims on Lincoln cents and other modern US coinage. This is not an error either. Welcome to CT and the crazy world of coin collecting!!
