I have noticed something, at least in my area. And I am quite sure it's caused by the Presidential dollars and the following law.

    ---------------
three Presidential Dollars struck and placed into circulation, one Sacajawea Dollar must be struck and placed into circulation.
    ---------------

It seems the Mint instead of minting 2007 sacs en masse, has chosen to release fresh 2000/2001 sac dollars instead to fullfill this "quota". For the first time in a long time I am seeing very fresh looking Sac dollars. Mixed in with this are a few 2002 and 2003 sac dollars, which I never saw before. Also, for the first time the 1999 SBA dollars are easier to find. They must be sending those out as well. This is here in Indiana. Anyone else noticing this?

the law requiring a 3:1 ratio has been repealed. the mint noi longer is required to mint all those sac dollars.

OP, what you are finding are dollar coins that have been cashed in and rerolled for re-circulation. They probably just look new because they never really circulation. I would save any 2002 and newer that you find as those were never issued for circulation.

I am interested in hearing about the 1999 SBAs. I've been looking for them of late and I found one at my local bank--in very good condition. I'm also curious if the mint is pushing some of the stored coins back into circulation...

I've never bought coins from the mint, so I've never read the fine print, but can they release say, 2003 sacs into circulation??

Isn't there some kind of agreement that you could only get them by buying them from mint? Wouldn't they be breaking some kind of agreement here?

It doesn't seem fair to people who paid a premium from the mint and now you can go to the bank and buy them at face.

The mint releases coins to the Federal Reserve as they request them. The '99 SBA's were gone a long time ago. But the mint still has plenty of '01 Sackies.

I have been seeing some brand new looking Sackies in Ohio.
I just figured someone unloaded a hoard.
