This coin arrived in the mail today. It is every bit the coin I had hoped it would be. It's dripping with luster, decent strike and a little bit of color. I saw it listed on eBay and as soon as I saw it, I knew it HAD to come home. The images in the listing looked like they were take with a satellite, but I from what I could see it sure looked good to me. This one is becoming a permanent resident of my herd. If you're up for it, you can try to guess the grade or add comments if you wish, they are always appreciated. :)

65 I saw the split in the 3 of the date, Is it a DDO-001? the clash is there, just can't make out the rest of the markers, looks like the die had gotten a fresh die polishing?

    I think it's at least 65, if not 66.

Just a little while ago I had a similar experience with a 1913 T1 that I knew I just had to have, so I know what that's like.

For comparison purposes, mine is PCGS MS65. I'm going to repost the OP coin right below it so I can squint at the finer details.

Hm. I can't say. I think @jtlee321's coin is a little bit better struck than mine, at least on the obverse.

I think I recognize "FS" as Fivaz-Stanton (?), but otherwise your attribution looks to me as though a cat walked across your keyboard.

What he is referring to is more commonly known as the 1913 Type 1 3 1/2 Leg Buffalo. I always keep my eye out for those, but as you mentioned @Paddy54 they are very rare. Unfortunately this is not 3 1/2 legger. If it is the same die but at an earlier state, it would not get attributed as the front most leg needs to have the abrading for it to qualify as the FS-901.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments.

@ToughCOINS I have looked over the coin, it seems to be a fairly early die state. The incredible texture in the fields on the reverse and obverse are actually part of the coins original design. When Barber made the changes to the Type 2 design modifications, part of those modifications were to smooth out the fields to help the metal flow better during the striking process. The Type 1 design has such an appeal to me because of the rough and almost medallic look. Someday when I win the lottery I will buy a Type 1 Proof. :)

@Petercoin I'm not seeing the extra metal near the 9 that you are referring to. There is a very small strike through impression just inside the lower loop of the 9 if that is what you are referring to? Also, where is the crack that you see?

@Pickin and Grinin the doubled die that you refer to is another that I always look for. Unfortunately this one is not that variety.

This particular coins is one of the many in my collection, that I not only bought for the coin, but also the holder. ;)

If any of you would also like to guess the holder, go for it. If you have already guessed, feel free to edit your guesses.
