Attached are a few shot of a High Relief 1921 Peace dollar that on further examination I believe was cleaned and maybe wire brushed . What do you think? Bruce
More PIX These shots look like they've been wire brushed. I can return it for a refund if I need to. The photos in the black ring airtites are how it was pictured. The next photos are of the coin I received. They look like 2 different coins. Bruce
Harshly cleaned yes, wire brushed I doubt it. I would return the coin and look for a problem free example.
It's the same coin that was originally shown , you can tell by a few of the obvious marks on both sides. Just goes to show how some people can play games with lighting and coin angles to get a better look.
I agree with Doug. I would return the coin and find a problem-free example. Damaged 21s are not desirable because of the availability of problem-free coins. The 1921 Peace Dollar's price is also flat across most grades up to MS-64, so this one, IMHO, is NOT a value even at a discount. I would definately look for another.
I would melt it also in order to take it out of the coin pool so some other unsuspecting collector doesn't take the bait. My destation because I am lover of Peace Dollars and this one has been despoiled.
Destroy it! It'll develope a complex when it meets nice Peace dollars. Then it'll go slowly crazy and possibly go postal. And then we'll all be forced to read about it in the New York Times.
Agreed, the motion passes, destroy it by the quickest means available and accept the loss. Think of the favor you will be doing for future generations!
the obverse on the neck looks like it has been rubbed with a harsh cloth and the reverse, to the right of the upper wing. i would not buy this coin, return it.
XF detalis, cleaned (harshly), net VG. NOTE: Pay close attention to the original photos -- notice how they are taken at an angle and also notice how they "hide" the obvious cleaning shown in the second set of photos.
