    Oh, how I have missed those golden pictures of yours, @Insider.

    The coin in the OP looks more to me like a lamination than any of the other things that you have listed, but as I have said before... what do I know?

    If a die chips it results in a RAISED feature on a coin not a recessed one.

    I think a chipped die and a die chip are different animals.

    Yes there are different animals, a chipped die (recessed hole, or space if the chip is at the edge) results in a die chip (raised lump) on the coin.

    So what is the correct answer? I see Insider said "That was too easy! " but never said what the answer given before that was the right one. Worst. Teacher. Ever.

    Second pic showed it better. I’m in agreement it’s glue or a foreign substance

    Sorry, guess it was not too easy. Glue or varnish type of substance. It is raised and off-color with trapped bubbles. There is a split where the rim is not coated. To the naked eye, it may look like a mint error. Came off with acetone.
