Finally received this one and took some in hand shots. Two very tiny spots on the reverse but they really aren't much to worry about. I may eventually have this re-slabbed to have the fancy 5 attributed to the coin. Let me know your thoughts.
Nice coin! I’d keep the CAC sticker and save the money for a resubmission. You know what it is, right?
Thanks guys. I'll probably leave the coin alone and keep it as is, but figured Id throw the question out there. Glad you like it, its growing on me hourly bigtime since I got it. Maybe when I first saw it, I just couldnt believe it. Its not easy for me to afford coins on this level. I spend more then I make and use my old collections to fund it, as I have always collection valuable things. But this is the second biggest coin I own...... after this indian:
I'd leave the coin alone. Anyone who would have the resources to buy that coin would know the variety. I doubt if reslabbing it would be worth the cost. You'd lose the bean as well.
There is one reason to consider having it attributed, and then re-send it to CAC - REGISTRY It seems that the Fancy 5 in 66RD has a pop of 1, with none higher, according to the PCGS page. However, Heritage shows that there is a 67 out there in a PCGS slab as well. Just something to consider.
WOW! What a great example. As already mentioned - leave it as is with the bean. Anyone wanting the F5 will not need the TPG to tell them what it is..my 2 cents on your two cent...
Very good point. I didn't know that it was a top pop coin if it got attributed. In that case I'd probably send it in and pay the cost.
I learned something today. I didn't even think these 1865 2C pieces had different 5s. I knew the 1865 1C pieces did, but not these 1865 2C pieces. I have both the 1865 fancy and straight 1C 5s.
That's why if ever selling it I think it's worth it to reslab with the attribution on there since registry hounds would be the ones after this since it's a condition census coin. Also, and I don't know the answer to this, if PCGS keeps the same cert # and just adds the attribution to it then you can resend to CAC and re-sticker for $3 + shipping but don't have to worry about whether it will sticker again or not.
