Hi, new member here. I have been going through my late father's coin collection and have a coin that I cannot find anything about. It is a Jewish coin dated 1290 in excellent condition. As you may be aware, the year 1290 was when the Jewish people were exiled from England for several hundred years. Can anyone send me in the right direction so I may find out more about this coin? hi, N320AW. please post a clear picture or scan of both sides -- the obverse and reverse -- of your coin. that would go a long way toward letting us help you figure out what you have. i have to say, though, that i'm a bit sceptical -- i'm unaware of any jewish body issuing proper coins during the middle ages. but let's see what you've got first. v.
I have a very strong feeling that this is a medal. As far as I know, 'dated' coins as we know them didn't appear until the 1300's at the earliest, and even then weren't a regular fixture on coins until the 1400's.
From the picture it appears to be a coin from Marocco, they use that seal of solomon on there coins :smile but I am afraid I cant realy make out any detail so cant say much more than that.
I agree totally with De Orc: a coin of the Moroccan falus-series, probably minted in Fes (but I could be wrong in the mint name). The year is 1290AH, which is 1873AD.

I'm far from an expert, but your coin looks like it could be a copy, since the detail is so good. Probably wrong, though. Anyways, here's a link to a similar coin from the WCG.
