I received the following coin yesterday and have added it to my display. This leaves three missing - obvious from the image of my display. MARCUS ANTONIUS AR Denarius OBVERSE: ANT AVG III VIR R P C, Praetorian galley, thyrsos behind prow REVERSE: LEG XXI, legionary eagle between two standards Patrae 32-31 BC 3.5g, 17mm CR 544/37; Sear 381; Sydenham 1244 I have now populated my display with one from each of the legions under Mark Anthony minus the three I am missing. I know a couple of you guys and gals have the three I am missing. Please show them (and if you ever plan to seel/trade, I hope you keep me in mind).
Wow @Bing that display looks great! Congrats on the new coin. BTW that Antiquae looks great in your set
Oh wow, @Bing , the coin looks great and the Display Board is fantastic! How about a Legio V to make yours all look GREAT!
I love it Bing. That's a great display of a challenging set of coins. I'm looking forward to seeing the 3 holes filled.
I have one of the ones you're missing and as you already know I found it hard to let go. It's not the best Legionary but it is pretty rare and actually the second of this type I've owned! Mark Antony Legionary Denarius LEG IIII ANT AVG III VIR R P C galley r. mast with banners at prow LEG IIII legionary eagle between two standards 3.04g Patrae mint 32-31BC Sear Imperator's 353; Crawford 544/16; Cohen 29 Ex-Calgary Coin VERY RARE This type with LEG IIII rather than LEG IV is quite rare. No examples were found in the Delos Hoard of 1905. Missing from RBW collection. Only 3 examples ever offered by CNG.
That is the coolest display board I've seen and you've filled it nicely. I like the toning of your latest as it shows off the details quite nicely. Happy hunting for the few remaining.
CoinTalk needs a "love" button like Facebook. I love this display! How long have you been collecting MA's legionary coins? This looks like the work of decades.
MY very first Ancient coin was a MA Legionary Denarius, Legio XI in 1981. I wasn't a serious collector back then, and only had maybe 25 or 30 coins by 2006. Since then I began in earnest and now have about 950 coins. The legionary series, other than the first one, is a result of about 10 years of searching for coins within my budget. BTW, thanks for the compliments to all of you guys and gals. What a great bunch of collectors you all are.
I sent images to the fellow that made the display case and he responded with this: Jim Barbour 10:25 PM (0 minutes ago) to me Hello Mr Harper ~ I an so very pleased that you like the case, and would be glad to make them for your friends and fellow collectors. Thanks you for the photographs - it looks good with the coins in place. That is a most impressive collection. Just have others contact me directly via this email address. best regards, ~ jim ---------------------------------------------------- Jim Barbour ShopDog Turnery 3324 Osceola Road Elon, NC 27244-9743 (336) 584-4228
That’s a beautiful presentation, Bing. Three more to go but as it is it’s already a set to be proud of. Have fun hunting... I’m keeping my eyes open for you.
