Well, perhaps like a giant box of diapers, but quarters instead of diapers. I'm sorry I didn't take more pictures during the process. I finally took all of these to the bank, so I feel comfortable sharing that I once had them and no longer do. I bought these a while ago and have been hand rolling them and looking for silver. I didn't really have time to look for varieties. If the toning was interesting, I set it aside. Otherwise, I would honestly consider these still "unsearched". Here are a couple of photos, with most of the coins I pulled aside. My wife helped in the searching and rolling. In total, we found 10 silver quarters. No complaints there
cool silver ones. I liked the machined 1 where they took out the clad layer to exposed the copper layer. how long does it take to accumulate $5,000 in quarters ??? wow what a savings pile for sure.
It took about 10 minutes to accumulate this hoard. Haha, this was a purchase here in Germany. I don’t know how long that took those who sold it to accumulate.
Not sure where in Germany you can find a bank that would take all those quarters but that first picture is definitely cool. And I agree, the coin with the removed outer layer is a keeper ... (Edit) Having read the thread about the pennies, I now know which bank would do that, hehe. Christian
So, exactly 1 in 2000 silver? I'm guessing that's a bit better than the circulating population here. I'm impressed that that box was able to stand up to 250 pounds of content! I thought I'd seen some heavily-loaded diapers...
Yes, I was pretty darn happy with the silver ratio. If I recall, I actually found an 11th one early on, but these sat for a little while and I can't remember for sure. It's surprising how much these boxes can hold. Now, the point being that they can only hold shape. If I tried to pick this up, they'd fall through the bottom. Which is exactly my intention as part of my unsophisticated burglar-proofing. It's much harder to walk away with $5,000 lose quarters than bags of $250 or $500 that you can load into a truck.
Well on the 1979-P SBA you need to look for the WIDE RIM NEAR DATE. (The one with the date closer to the rim).
Perhaps the bigger question should be if the mintage is low enough to support a premium-worthy demand, particularly if in less than stellar conditions. I honestly don't know, but would guess the chances are very low....
Oh, these are definitely $1 worth to me. Someone who collects SBA might want it. Also, I have a few UNC SBAs sitting around. One might be worth putting in a 2x2
If they're worth it to you, that settles it. Still, it was a fair question, especially since something I'm not personally familiar with.
I honestly don’t know that answer. These will all go to the bank. I like to keep lowest mintage coins from a series when possible. Edit: to clarify my last post, I see those as only worth $1 and no premium, but someone might want one to fill a hole.
Cool finds - funny the different coins you find, I got a 20 pence English coin in a roll of nickels the other day.
Try 'Happy Tears' film 2009 with Demi Moore... the 'Treasure' near the movie end has a quite a 'few' quarters to give you/us an idea! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demi_Moore
