I recently purchased the Hadrian and the Nerva to fill out the collection. Both were acquired from a favorite VCoins dealer. I was inspired by @IdesOfMarch01 —though this is a minor accomplishment compared to his awesome Twelve Caesar Collection. Thanks to @Orfew , @hoth2 and @Ken Dorney for your assistance!
That is amazing... congratulations! Love the coins and how you have presented them here. Very inspiring.... someday....someday....
Those coins look spectacular and you amp them up amazingly with your artistry you add to them! Great work @Deacon Ray! --EDIT-- (Adding a related coin, another adoptive bro to MA, lucky Lucius) Lucius Verus, Co-Ruler with M. Aurelius, AE27 Dupondius, Struck 163-164 AD, Rome Mint Obverse: L AVREL VERVS AVG ARMENIACVS, radiate, cuirassed bust right. Reverse: TR P IIII IMP II COS II, Mars, helmeted, in military dress, standing right, holding spear in right hand and leaning left arm on shield on ground, S-C in field. References: RIC III (M. Aurelius) 1388/1387, BMC 1123 Size: 27mm, 11.17g
I prefer calling them the Adoptive Emperors and adding a Lucius Verus. Of course, you could add a Commodus just to show what happens when you break with what worked and turn the Empire over to your worthless kid. Of course Septimius Severus claimed to have been adopted by Marcus even though Marcus had been dead for years when it occurred so we really have to stretch a point to add him.
Very nice @Deacon Ray. I really like the Nerva. I have wanted a "clasped hands" denarius for some time.
Really nice set! I still need a Nerva to complete my set and yours is very appealing! Thanks for sharing and nicely displayed! Paul
I really like these manageable, targeted sets. This one offers an opportunity for a real sense of completion without breaking the bank.
Beautiful presentation @Deacon Ray and some great coins there. I need a Nerva and Hadrian to round out my 5 good emperors series. I'm hoping for a nice large Hadrian drachm of Alexandria (crossing fingers!)
Nice @Deacon Ray ... Nice re-emergence into the Wonderful World of Ancients! I put together a hardscrabble "Five Good Emperors"... (I have other examples, but this one is fun.) Nice presentation, @Deacon Ray ! That Marcus Aurelius is stunning! Here are some denarii in my collection:
@Roman Collector your MA looks like he's giving Faustina the death glare. Maybe she said something inappropriate while he was sitting for the celator to capture his image. Or maybe he had lasers for eyes... Maybe not... (but maybe?)
What a set @Deacon Ray it looks amazing presented together like that. Generally I’m not a filling holes kind of collector but the 5 Good Emperors Set has always been intriguing. I’m also hoping to do something similar with the sestertius, dupondius, and as like @Alegandron and look forward to the hunt. Nice inspiration guys.
