Alright, my last post wasn't the best launching pad to celebrate the Ides of March. But I'm itching to see thems JCs! I must admit to being spoiled as the 1st ancient I ever received (it was from my dad) was the Julius Caesar fouree below. I guess you could say a fouree was my foray into ancients! AR Denarius fouree 47-46 BCE 2.8 gr 18 MM Minted in North Africa (Egypt) Obv, diademed head of Venus Rev, CAESAR, Aeneas carrying Anchises and palladium. The coin represents Caesar's war coinage for the protracted campaign against Pompians in Africa culminating in the battle of Thapsus. Julius Caesar AR Denarius 49-48 BCE. 3,43 gr 18 MM Military mint traveling with Caesar Obv, CAESAR in exergue, elephant advancing trampling horned serpent. With an "R" bankers mark behind elephant (probably for Ryro). Rev, simpulum, sprinkler, axe (surmounted with dogs head) and priests hat. Signifying Caesar's role as Pontifex Maximus. That's what I've got. How about you all??? Post those Caesar's, Brutus's or anything you feel on this day of morning (or celebration).
Great coins Ryro! That's a pretty sweet first ancient. I posted my Aeneas in the other thread so I'll post my elephant here.
I have these two budget Caesars: - / CAESAR Diademed head of Venus right, with Cupid behind shoulder / Trophy of Gallic arms, composed of helmet and cuirass, oval shield and carnyx in each hand; two seated captives at base, the one on left a female in attitude of dejection, resting head in right hand, the one on right a bearded male with hands bound behind him. Denarius, military mint traveling with Caesar in Spain, late 46-early 45 b.C. 3,62 g / 19 mm Crawford 468/1; RSC 13; CRI 58; Sydenham 1014 DIVOS [IVLIVS] / CAESAR – DIVI F Wreathed head of Caesar to right / bare head of Octavian to right with slight beard AE As or Dupondius, uncertain Italian mint, 38 b.C. Thanks a bunch. I'm just lucky to have such a great dad. The sun even shines on an elephants butt from time to time Great portrait btw
NICE! I was gonna say how much I love your Aeneaes, but that's a beautiful grip of Caesars right there Bing! Is that the portrait that you have in that saweet 12 Caesars frame? (Cannot wait to see those Legios fill the new beaut your son had made for you)
Thank you for the compliment and yes, that is the coin I use in my 12 Caesars set. It is my only JC portrait. I began putting my coins in the display case this morning, but discovered I did not have enough A18 (us dime size) air tite holders. I had to order some, but they will be here tomorrow.
Very nice Caesar coins Ryro, especially like your elephant one. I only have two a life time non-portrait 45-46 BC and a portrait postumas Macedon JC about 28 BC.

Speaking of COOL, BaBoom! You just dropped a bomb with that beauty of a Caesar portrait. Very very impressive.
