So, I just lost out on a lifetime Julius Caesar portrait coin. I NEED one and I bid $300. It sold for $305 But wait. The seller just sent me a 2nd chance offer!!...which seems a little strange as I had just been out bid just a minute before. I need some of your expertise and advice. Should I buy this coin for $300? And please, as tomorrow marks the deathiversary, post those JCs!...or anything relevant.
I wonder the the seller had a shill bidder (himself) attempting to drive up the price. (If it was eBay, look at the other bids and see it the winner bid a few times higher and higher trying to discover your maximum.) Unfortunately for him, the shill bid was too high and he won it himself. So, now he knows your maximum and wants you to pay your maximum. It may be that the second-highest real bidder (if there was a second real bidder) bid far lower. I don't think that coin would bring $300 from two real buyers. Pass on the offer and consider yourself lucky you did not pay $300.
Thanks. I feel I was overzealous. I've not seen many portraits go for under that though. How much do you think that coin should go for?
Looking on acsearch, there are quite a few better ones that have hammered for less in the last few years. I wouldn't put the value of that one higher than $150.
It's a good ambition to own a JC portrait coin but with this coin it is hard to see he's portrait as to worn so you probably wouldn't be satisfied down the track and want to upgrade.
..hey Besieger..i saw and bid on it too..i'll show it when it comes in><(jk)..i wouldn't think it'd been worth more than $200.00 for the shape it's in, even on the eve of the ides...endeavor to preserver my friend, there'll be more better ones come up plus there's many more coins to get besides that "one"..
I think it’s real. I think just shill bidding and could never get the price he wanted. In other words, he’s always the high bidder.
Makes sense. I wish I could say that I'm surprised that eBay does nothing about this kind of nefarious activity. Thanks for the heads up.
Yeah, even the sellers 100% with almost 1,500 comments was a mirage. All of the comments were left from sellers! His account hasn't sold anything. Smh
A little Ides of March humor - very little: Julius Caesar asked Brutus to go and buy him a dozen apples. Brutus returned and handed the apples to Caesar who counted them, and discovered there were only ten. So he asked "Et tu, Brute?"
