I bought 2x 2007 clad proof sets, and interestingly enough on one of them the box that holds the all the coins minus the prez dollars says "2007 United States Mint 10 of 14 Proof Coins" but the other one has a white sticker over that area with the print on it and I believe (but don't know because I haven't taken the sticker off) that under the stick the box is printed just like the ones from 1999-2006 (meaning it says just "United States Mint Proof Set 2005" and doesn't have the "10 of 14 Proof Coins" print). I assume that some of the boxes were made before they decided to package the set wit hthe Prez dollars or something, otherwise I don't know why they would have put a sticker on the box changing what it originally said. Are most of the 2007 proof set boxes like this? Or is mine special? I attached 2 photos, 1 of the normal box and one of the box with the sticker.
Take the coins out of the box and then hold the box up to the light. You should be able to read what is printed underneath the sticker...
Negative on the previous year. As this picture shows 2007 is clearly printed on the side of the box, no sticker used. Even with the coins out I can't really discern what it says under the sticker. My theory is that they made some boxes like the 1999-2006 ones that don't say the "10 of 14 proof coins" text, and then maybe some kind of last minute change was made in how they packaged the set, and they just put stickers on all the boxes they made already. I wonder if this one has any kind of special collector value?
Didn't the first sets sent out have these stickers on them? I think I remember someone saying that the new boxes hadn't arrived yet and were holding up shipment.
value on it i think two variety on this year box. premium, value, collectible. o.k. maybe.............
Ok, I went and found my boxes, took the coins out, and could only read what it says by using an LED flashlight. Under the sticker it reads "United States Mint Proof Set 2007". Doesn't state how many coins.
My clad proof sets all have the sticker on the box. I supposed PCGS will be slabbing the boxes as "sticker variety 1".
sticker i think the one without sticker and stated without number of coins will be rare and special. or they called it error.
Lol. I don't think the sticker will add any premium, but still pretty neat, two varieties of boxes. Phoenix
I remember in a previous thread that there was talk of these two types of boxes. We will probably never know how many of each went out, but I know the mint added the sticker after it was thought that some might try to sell the set to the unsuspecting without the dollar set included. All three of my sets have the sticker and I got these just after they came out.
Interesting. Well my set with a sticker was purchased like in September or possibly early October, while my set without the sticker was morel ike early November or late October.
I don't think the set with the sticker will have any premium. If it did, you go to your local print shop and have stickers made up and put them on the boxes that don't have stickers. The box that might have a premium would be one hat was supposed to have a sticker but doesn't. No sticker and just says 2007 United States Mint Proof Set. Because it you try and take a sticker OFF of a box it will probably damage it. Makes i harder to fake.
No, I think NGC is more likely. They are the ones who slab brown Ikes and hard pack CC dollars still in the government holders, and recently they began slabbing the blue ikes and softpack GSA dollars in the holders a well and also the President dollar First Day covers. No one else does these things. (OK ICG slabbed whole rolls of of President dollars in opaque plastic rolls.) How big a step will it be to slabbing the proof set still in the box? And NGC has the track record.
I bought the 2007 Mit Set of 28 Coins and it came in a Crummy Brown Box. And some of the sets where damage. The fold part was crack at the edge. I do not believe that these mint set holders will protect the coins for more then 5 years before the coins start showing age. Jeffrey
Possibly but the President dollars were authorized over a year before the boxes were made so they had to know they were coming.
