Wow!!! I love that portrait style on that one!

Here's are some humbler examples of Tacitus, though you have to admit the guy ROCKED the neck-beard!

That is a really good find. Don't sell it cheaply (unless you are selling to me, of course). :)

Was that amongst the coins you found yesterday or a new find? Anyway either you're a magician as a coin cleaner or it just happened to be in great condition!

Great find Galba, good quality too, congrats

unclear what happened to Tacitus , the senate appointed him emperor at age 75, but he died after 8 months, killed by his own soldiers or from a sudden fever ?

  12. Carausius

Carausius Brother, can you spare a sestertius?

Obverse legend looks unusual (to me). What are the letters after AVG?

Earlier rulers regularly used COS for Consul but this coin honored Tactitus' third Consulship. Note he wears Consular robes.

Agree. I just can't recall seeing it abbreviated that way before.

Gallienus used just C or Consul and P for TRP. Probus used CONS rather than the old COS so it seems they were open to change.

It might be a question of space. The consular issues for Probus are all around 24/25+ mm and the same is true about the Maxentius consulars. The smaller AEs for Constantine and his sons's consular types usually have the regular COS legend.
