How best to evaluate my collection?

    Hey. If you want to dig through them and enjoy the hunt then do it. I was simply speaking from a pure financial standpoint...it’s probably not worth the investment. But if you want to do it and will enjoy it...then do it.

    Dates 1964 and below on the dimes, quarters, and halves are 90% silver, so set those aside for the silver content, alone. Use this to calculate the current market value of the silver: http://www.coinflation.com/coins/silver_coin_calculator.html.

    It's the "not knowing" that leads to getting hooked on coins. By the time you do know you'll find that searching, collecting, and studying coins is a lot of fun. If you pursue it you'll likely find modern circulating coins isn't a big enough area so you'll branch out into older US coins and then into world coins. Some people even will then get into tokens and medals. Of course, we don't all take the exact same route.
